What does Britain’s Prince Andrew have in common with protesters at elite colleges like Columbia and NYU?
Both are facing sanctions and are being punished because of their personal actions.
In Andrew’s case, he’s been stripped of his royal title and evicted from a 32-room mansion because of multiple allegations of sexual misconduct with underage girls through his association with the late Jeffrey Epstein.
The college instigators are facing expulsion and other actions because of the damage they caused during destructive pro-Palestinian protests over the last two years where they physically threatened Jewish students.
Will all the men associated with Epstein’s misdeeds suffer the same fate as Andrew? Unlikely, just as it’s unlikely all the student protesters who attacked students and destroyed university property over the last two years will be brought to justice.
But that doesn’t mean others should plan on getting off scot free. Actions have consequences. It’s up to us to insist that people who are responsible for these types of crimes are not just punished for their actions, but that those punishments are widely publicized.
If we don’t want to tolerate these types of behaviors, then we need to be clear as to what will happen to those who engage in them. Even when the perpetrators they are rich, powerful, or, as in Andrew’s case, royal.
