Donald Trump has thrown a major wrench into the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
Trump combines notoriety and seemingly unlimited personal funds with an uncanny ability to make outrageous statements on a variety of topics from immigration to breast feeding. He’s so politically incorrect, the media loves to cover his every move to see what crazy thing he’ll say or do next.
Will Trump be the next American president, or even the Republican nominee? Probably not. Yet, his over-the-top media presence has diverted attention from most of the nearly 20 other Republican candidates in the race.
The stronger Republican candidates will likely survive Hurricane Donald. Those who were in a marginal position to start with will likely be eviscerated by the lack of oxygen in the room with Trump around.
Sometimes an external force trumps logic and reason.
